The new 07 wonders announced on 07/07/07 is everywhere on the web now. They call it new seven wonders of the world but it is actually not because of the following reasons.

  1. They selected them based on the votes they received. Anyone can vote freely once via online. But what about the people who don’t have access to the web?
  2. If someone want to vote more than once they can do it through SMS and telephone. For every call and SMS, an additional amount of money is charged. This restricts the votes to more rich people.
  3. The voting process was available in only 12 languages and the people who don’t speak these languages have been neglected.
  4. This is just a popularity contest and the scientific and educational work has been neglected.
  5. People voted for their country not for the wonder if something from their country was on the list. For example their was a campaign in Brazil called Vote no Cristo (Vote for the Christ) to vote the Christ the Redeemer Statue and now it’s a wonder.

So now you can see how unreasonable and illogical selection is this. There may be more things that you know regarding this matter and you may have your own opinion. Please share it with others.

So what’s your solution? Distribute ballots to everyone on the planet so everyone can vote? Sounds like your particular wonder wasnt selected. Poor you. Get over it. Its not really important anyway.

Totally agreed on the post. Basically the ‘argument’ brought in by the organisers was that this was more democratic than one person naming the wonders of the world. In that case, the counter argument is why seven? (and for all you know, there are actually eight now).

In my opinion, the old world’s seven wonders were important at that time in a historical and architecural/engineering view point. Currently the UNESCO’s world heritage sites give a certain indication of the same thing. So I dont see any reason for another organisation to come up with something else.

And as for Christ the Redeemer, Eiffel, Statue of Liberty and Sydney Opera House being in the candidate list, well it gives you an indication of what this was really about; total bollocks.
