In last few days some blog posts emerged in Kottu claiming that TamilNet can’t be accessed from Sri Lanka and there were some solutions too. I haven’t visited TamilNet for a very long time perhaps for about 2-3 years because its unbalanced nature of providing news. But at the same time people can’t access TamilNet, there seems to be a problem of accessing www.lankanewspapers.com too. It brings news about Sri Lanka from various sources specially from the Sri Lankan English news papers, international news agencies and some other news providers including TamilNet.

So I used one of the proxy service, www.proxyindex.com to enter lankanewspapers.com and surprisingly the top news item was “Sri Lanka blocks TamilNet” and the source is TamilNet. I also visited TamilNet and their top news item was also the same. So probably the government has decided to ban TamilNet and other news sources which brings news from them. Even though TamilNet is linked to LTTE and providing false information this is a shameless and blind step taken by the government to stop them because anyone can easily access the site with the help of a proxy service.

It’s a tragedy for all of us that our leaders haven’t yet understood the fact that they can’t hide information forever from the public. This is the information age and it’s flowing freely. None can stop that. So Mr. President let them say what they want and let us decide what is true and what is not.
